MBtech – The engine genius

Category: powertrain solutions, Press release

At the 31st Vienna Engine Symposium MBtech presents striking examples of its drive systems competence. Among these is an innovation project consisting of a natural gas combustion engine for commercial vehicles.

Approximately 1,000 leading experts from all over the world will attend the International Vienna Engine Symposium at the Hofburg Congress Center on April 29 – 30, 2010 with the goal of discussing the latest developments in alternative drive systems, components and automotive electronics. MBtech, the automotive engineering and consulting service provider, is attending as an exhibitor and presenting its forward-looking exhibits: From a visionary engine concept to a current variant application onward to an advanced control unit solution which not only vehicle manufactures stand to benefit from.

Present at the exhibition stand at the Vienna Engine Symposium for the first time, experts from MBtech's powertrain solutions segment provide insights into their latest innovation project which essentially began as a blank page: They are developing a compressed natural gas (CNG) driven in-line combustion engine with a 6 liter capacity and turbocharging especially for medium duty commercial vehicles. The engine must fulfill particularly strict requirements: In comparison to other current six cylinder diesel engines for medium duty (MD) vehicles it should be considerably more compact and lighter while also offering significant advantages with regard to mechanical friction loss. At the same time MBtech's engineers have set themselves the goal of achieving at least the same power and torque ratings despite running on CNG and having two cylinders less...
